We see this all too often. Just in case you are wondering, this is NOT the way to join two coaxial cables. These guys have stripped back the wire, twisted the core and braid together, then covered the lot in insulating tape. This isn't waterproof and can cause all sorts of signal problems (impedance mismatch / standing waves etc). Ideally you shouldn't join cables at all, but instead should run a whole new cable. In reality though there can be several situations where it's unavoidable and two cables have to be joined. If so it should be done with two "F" connectors and an "F" barrel. If this is outside then it needs to be waterproofed with self amalgamating tape.
